Focus Education are based in the North West and have been supporting schools for over 30 years by providing training, CPD, consultancy and resources for primary schools across the country and overseas. Alex delivers consultancy and training as an associate and has written a range of publications.

The Learning Challenge Curriculum is Focus’ flagship curriculum. Created with history, geography and science as it’s key drivers, it has become so much more than just lessons and units. It provides progression and mapping for the wider curriculum and is evolving all the time so that primary schools can stay ahead of the game.
Alex is part of the team who continuously develops and improves the curriculum. Recent additions include revamped science units, a whole school set of DT units, and an updated PSHCE curriculum we call ‘Let’s Talk’ which links to the current RSE framework.

Alex works as an associate for Best Practice Network within their Initial Teacher Training Programme for Primary. He has facilitated core training days, delivered Intensive Training And Practice weeks and works directly with students as a Personal Tutor. He is also their subject expert for both history and geography and has worked with the course leaders to support with the development of their wider curriculum offer for student teachers.
The C.O.O.L. Curriculum, has been developed by Emma Lewry to transform how children experience the curriculum. C.O.O.L. is an acronym for ‘Choosing Our Own Learning’, with the four key pillars of Choice, Ourselves, Ownership, and Learning at its heart to enable inclusive, highly engaging classrooms where children can thrive.
Alex has worked with Emma to support the development of critical elements of C.O.O.L.’s curriculum coverage and as part of the C.O.O.L. ‘think tank’, providing curriculum perspective and being referred to as a ‘curriculum guru’ by Emma!

First News provide wonderful resources to schools and children, sharing news and information in a child friendly way and providing lessons and supporting resources for children to explore them in an engaging way.
Alex works as a freelance content creator for FN, developing the content for their Level 3 Article Analysis (aimed at KS3) and their Level 3 and 4 Media and Information Literacy lessons (aimed at KS3 and 4). Alongside this he also creates short assemblies relating to each news article.

Primary Quiz is an online platform that has been designed and created by Conal Holmes. It provides low stakes quizes in a range of formats for english, maths, science and history.
